About AI Wales
AI Wales is Wales's national centre for artificial intelligence, established in 2018 as a community interest company (CIC) operated by Tech Literacy CIC. Based in Cardiff with chapters across Swansea, Newport, Wrexham, and North Wales, we connect enterprise leaders, SMEs, public sector organisations, universities, and technical talent to drive responsible AI adoption across every sector of the Welsh economy.
From FTSE-listed enterprises exploring AI strategy to startups building ML products, from NHS Wales teams implementing clinical AI to agricultural businesses adopting precision farming — AI Wales provides the connections, training, and support that Welsh organisations need to succeed with artificial intelligence.
"Wales has everything it needs to lead on AI. We're here to join it up."
Our four pillars
Connect
We bring together AI ecosystem participants through five sector councils, regional chapters, 25+ annual events, and a comprehensive ecosystem directory. Whether you need to find an AI consultant, connect with peers in your industry, or discover Welsh AI startups, AI Wales is your gateway to the community.
Educate
We build AI literacy through CPD-accredited training programmes, hands-on workshops, and thought leadership content. From executive AI strategy sessions to technical ML engineering courses, our programmes help Welsh professionals develop the skills they need to work effectively with AI.
Accelerate
We support AI innovation through structured programmes like AI Pathfinder and AI Champions, strategic partnerships with Welsh Government and Innovate UK, and connections to funding opportunities. We help organisations move from AI curiosity to confident implementation.
Advocate
We shape policy conversations on responsible AI adoption, working with Welsh Government, regulators, and industry bodies. We ensure Welsh voices are heard in national AI strategy discussions and promote ethical, inclusive approaches to AI deployment.
Independence and neutrality
AI Wales operates as an independent community interest company, working collaboratively with — but not owned by — Welsh Government, public sector bodies, universities, or commercial organisations. This independence allows us to serve as a neutral convener, bringing together stakeholders who might otherwise operate in silos.
We are sector-neutral and politically independent, serving all regions of Wales and all economic sectors from Cardiff fintech to North Wales agriculture. We don't sell AI products or services, so our advice is always in your organisation's best interest.
As a CIC, any surplus we generate is reinvested into the Welsh AI community — funding events, subsidising training, and supporting ecosystem development across Wales.
Leadership
AI Wales is led by a team of practitioners with deep experience across AI, technology leadership, and community building. Our leadership team combines technical expertise with strategic vision to serve the Welsh AI ecosystem.
